A multi-million dollar project bringing over 100 new jobs to Summerville, SC.

Summerville, SC: Today, Sportsman Boats announces a two-phase expansion project for their manufacturing facility in Summerville. This event was presented by the Governor Henry McMaster and Sportsman Boats’ president, Tommy Hancock.

“We have been gradually adding jobs to our community since the day we started, stimulating our local economy and incentivizing growth” said Tommy Hancock. This ambitious $3.5 million-dollar expansion will add over one hundred jobs positions in their Dorchester County facility.

The first phase of the project consists of a brand-new 250’ by 100’ building that will house their welding and upholstery shops. The 25,000 sq. ft. addition starts construction in just a few days following today’s groundbreaking ceremonies.

Upon completion, the crew will immediately jump into phase two, an adjacent 250’ by 200’ building, that will add another 50,000 sq. ft of manufacturing floor. Everything is scheduled to complete in Spring 2018.

In addition, Sportsman Boats recently completed a project with the South Carolina Energy Office, the Business Development Corporation, SCE&G and the USDA Rural Development to construct a $1.2 million dollar/800 kw solar project.

Grant funding in the amount of $294,043 was received from the USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP), with the balance of the funds coming from a loan by the Energy Office and the BDC.

This project will promote renewable energy in rural South Carolina, reduce consumption of fossil fuel-based conventional energy resources thus protecting the environment and its delicate ecosystems.
